Sigrún Eva Ármannsdóttir, 18 and a student, is the new Miss Iceland 2011. She won the title tonight. First runner-up in the contest was Guðlaug Dagmar Jónsdóttir and second runner-up was Sigríður Dagbjört Ásgeirsdóttir.

The new Miss India Worldwide 2011 is Miss Australia India Ankita Ghazan, 19, from Sydney. She was elected last night in Abu Dhabi, during the gala 20th anniversary of the contest. First runner-up was Miss USA India Natasha Arora, from Texas. Second runner-up was Miss Trinidad and Tobago India Anuradha Devika Maharaj. 26 women of Indian heritage from around the world competed for the coveted title.
Elected last night were the new Miss and Mister Suisse Romande 2011. They are Aline Bacher, 22, and Raphaël Millius, 25. The glittering gala was held in Montreux, at the Stravinski Auditorium in front of a live audience of 1,200. Runners-up for the Miss Suisse Romande 2011 title were Ellen Batelaan, 19, and Sarah Stuckelberger, 23. Mister Suisse Romande 2011 runners-up were Filipe Pires, 23, and Brian Meylan, 19.
The new Mr. Universe Model 2011 is Mr. Venezuela Juan Pablo Gómez. He is 24, stands a mighty 1m84, and is a physical education teacher. First-runner-up in the 4th annual competition held in Punto Cana, Dominican Republic, was the hometown boy Mr. Dominican Republic Antonio Duarte. Second runner-up was Mr. Luxembourg David Florentin. Rounding out the top five were Mr. Bolivia Nelson Gutiérrez y Mr. Slovenia Bojan Ilijanic. This marks the first time South America has won the title - previous winners have come from Europe (2) and North America (1).

Before there was Flaviana, there was Khadija. Khadija "Kate" Adam Ismail to be precise - Miss World Kenya 1984. She was a semifinalist and was named Queen of Africa at the 1984 Miss World contest. As is often the case, the pageant was a trampoline to success in another field. For Khadija, it was modelling. Recently, Nairobi's Daily Post caught up with Khadija. Here is an excerpt from the article:
27 years after she was crowned Miss Kenya, Khadija Adams remains an epitome of African beauty and is still attracting attention, albeit in another arena -business. Born and brought up in Nyeri, her civil service father died when she was young but, growing up under the watch of her mother, Halima "Gathoni" did not deter her from impressing the judges on the catwalk one evening in November 1984. Khadija's face has graced the world-renown Cosmopolitan and Time Magazines in 1987 and 1989 respectively, a feat any model would yearn for today. Described as "too radical and opinionated" by judges at the Miss World pageant in 1984, Khadija's spirit to go against the grain is still intact. During her time in the limelight of beauty, she had the privilege of enjoying 275 tickets a year to various destinations around the world. For 10 years since 1986, she modelled across the continents mostly between Japan, Italy, New York and Los Angeles before settling in London. "I have dared to dream many times. I have enjoyed wide travel and luxury and I do not, for a moment, regret getting into modelling," she says. According to Khadija, her most lucrative make-up contract was given by Yves Saint Laurent (YSL) a world leading fashion house in 1986.

In a busy pageant weekend worldwide, from Brazil to Trinidad and Tobago and from Spain to Switzerland, Miss Bern 2011 was elected. She is Alina Buchschacher, 21. Runners-up in the competition were Rahel Anyass and Nicole Beringer.
